1- PROCESS MANAGEMENT

The operating system is responsible for starting , stopping , and managing process and programs . It also controls the scheduling of processes and allocates resources to them.

2- MEMORY MANAGEMENT

The operating system manages the computer’s primary memory . It handles allocation and de-allocation of memory space as required by various programs .

3-SECURITY

The operating system provides a secure environment for the user , application and data by implementing security policies and mechanisms .

4-FILE MANAGEMENT

The operating system is responsible for managing the file system including the creation , deletion and manipulation of files and directories .

5- DEVICE MANAGEMENT

The operating system manages inputs/ output devices such as printer , keyboard , mice  and displays . If any device fails , it detects the device failure and notifies the same to the user .

6- BACKUP AND RECOVERY

The operating system provides mechanisms for backing up data and recovering it in case of system failures , errors, or disasters .
